Evaluation of Tom and Jerry Truce Hurts

The sound effects I used for the clip worked quite well. The sounds I recored for the clip were the crashing sounds, running sounds and the alarm clock at the end. These sounds worked really well with the clip. The sounds I got online were little things like the snoring and the pencil writing on the paper. These worked well too because they were sounds that wouldn't work if I tried to record them. I tried to record the pencil on paper but it didn't have the same effect.
I used background music because in between the sound effects I used it was silent and it made the clip seem plain and dull so the music made the clip all come together.
I had some issues with editing because some of the sound effects wouldn't work so I had to start again. Also, getting the sound effects to be in time with the clip was challenging, it all worked well in the end product but it took a lot of moving the sounds around to make it exactly in time.
If I could do anything different with the Tom and Jerry clip I would of taken more time looking into the background music because even though it fit well I would have preferred something that sounded more suited to a cartoon.
Over all, I was pleased with the end product and enjoyed putting it all together.

Preparing to work with sound effects (SFX's)

1. I think we use sound effects in TV and Film productions because it emphasizes the sound that should be there, such as, a car heavily breaking. If you used the sound that the mic picked up on it wouldn't be as shocking as you want the audience to think so you add in a sound effect of a car screeching.

2. The advantages of using sound effects in TV and Film are it makes the audience believe the scene more and they can help tell the story.

They add to the over all production a great story because the sound effects affect the target audience so they not only believe it better but also can understand it.

3. The disadvantages of using sound effects in TV and Film productions are that sometimes the sounds can be too much so it instantly becomes unbelievable to the audience.

4. The job description of a Foley Artist is they create foley sound effects. Foley Artists use a variety of objects to create the sounds of footsteps and other incidental noises in a film.

(Recording SFX's)

1. FootstepsWhat is heard are two Foley artists stamping their feet on a marble slab in a recording studio, they do this while watching the footage to make sure that their foot strikes happen at the same time as the actor’s steps on the screen. Foley studios carry many different types of shoes and several different types of floors to create footstep sounds.
2. Rain (The sound of)Plastic bags, polythene etc. - great for rain on gravel.
3. A person punching another person - A heavy phone book is commonly used by foley artists to make then sound of someone punching another person.
4. Horse trotting or walkingCoconut shells cut in half and stuffed with padding makes great horse hoof noises.
5. Fire cracklingCellophane creates crackling fire effects.

Preparing to shoot on location

It is important to make a plan before going to shoot film or audio on location because you need to find out weather situations and how crowded the area is going to be. If you know you'll be in a location such as, a stadium before a football match then you know there would be drunken people interrupting your broadcast, also it would effect the audio if there are many loud people in the background.
If you do not plan complications could arise such as if you do not check the weather you might not have the right equipment. Or if you are not organised then everything could be disfunctional and not go to plan. If you don't have the right microphones for the weather then that could ruin the whole broadcast if you cannot hear the presenter.

In this clip the things I would have done differently if I were directing the report would be checking the location again and the positioning of the reporter, he was stood on a ski slope and right in the middle of people slaying. If he was stood in another place, closer to the camera he wouldn't have got hit by the people skiing. Also if he was stood closer to the camera the audio would have been picked up better because it sounded quite faint.

Task 4: Filming Schedule and Equipment

                    Shots Filming                             Equipment Needed

16-12-11 - Filming shot eight, nine and ten. Camera and tripod.

Need extra's for this shot, as soldiers in the war that her brother is fighting in.

Task 3: 'Disconnected' Brief

For the music video 'Disconnected' by Jazz Morely the first shot would be Jazz walking round her old house, this would be a tracking shot. There will be flashbacks as she is walking round the house of Jazz and her brother when they were children, the shots will fade into the flashbacks. The flashbacks happen as the song gets to the line 'You're becoming a stranger'. When the song gets to the line 'I know you're a man now', another fade will happen because now it goes to a mid-shot of her brother walking to a boat to go to Afghanistan, as he is walking away the shot will slightly zoom out to give the effect that he is leaving his sister, Jazz. The shot will then go back to Jazz at her childhood house singing about and to her brother, this shot will be a close-up at first to show the emotion, then zooming out slowly as the shot will cut to her brother fighting in Afghanistan, this will be in slow motion. The end of the song will be Jazz's brother coming back home, she will be waiting there to see him, which will be a mid-shot. Her brother walks off the boat, this shot will be a mid-shot and zooming out. The next shot will be a side view of them both, being so happy to see each other and Jazz also being happy because her brother is home safe. They both hug and there will be a close-up of her crying whilst hugging him.
